First, the Cuisinart DCC-1200 makes an awesome cup of coffee. Easy to use, easy to care for, and delicious coffee. I have seen some other reviews that call the Cuisinart DCC-1200 almost perfect except for 2 things. Some reviews say it is difficult to take the top off of the carafe. The problem people are having is that they are used to a carafe with a hinge on the handle that makes the lid lift off the top but is still attached. The Cuisinart DCC-1200 has no hinge and actually “locks” onto the carafe if you try to do the same motion in removing the lid. What you need to do is lift the lid off of the handle of the carafe first and it comes right off (kind of a reverse motion off the carafe). We wanted a nice stainless steel toaster oven and saw that the Breville BOV800XL had been rated tops by Consumer Reports. It seemed too expensive, and we considered the Cuisinart TOB-195, but we’re not big fans of membrane control panels and prefer knobs if possible. But the Breville BOV800XL seemed too big as well as pricey. Breville BOV650XL “little brother” model is just right in size, is well made, and works great! Having a countdown timer is very nice, the crumb tray is super simple to pull out and empty. The manual recommends doing that after every use, and with this design, that’s no chore at all. Nice! The Panasonic SD-YD250 breadmaker is the only one I’ve owned that bakes good bread consistently. I’ve owned about 4 bread machines. The ones I bought from superstores could not bake good whole wheat bread. The dough did not rise properly. It either rose too high and sank, or never rose much at all. Even the Zojirushi couldn’t bake bread every time. In the 5 years I owned it, I must have thrown away 1/3 of the loaves because they were inedible. In the 2 years since I bought the Panasonic SD-YD250, making 2 loaves a week, only one loaf was a dud. It is an amazing bread machine. I think the yeast dispenser on top has a lot to do with its’ performance. I grind my own hard white wheat in a high-speed impact mill, load the breadmaker according to the recipe book and 5 hours later am eating the most incredible bread that could never be bought in a supermarket. I have been wanting a bread machine for a while, and I am so glad I got Zojirushi BB-CEC20. I’ll admit at first the couple of loaves of bread I made were completely misshapen and hard. So I read some of the reviews and took better care to measure my ingredients with more accuracy. After that, the bread turned out good. But for anyone who buys a bread machine, I must highly recommend The Bread Lover’s Bread Machine Cookbook by Beth Hensperger. I have found that the breads I made from this cookbook turned out much better than the recipes that come with the machine. Bosch SHE55M16UC washes the dishes very well and is extremely quiet. A couple of annoying features, however. The control panel is made of cheapo acrylic plastic with no hardcoat protection, so even paper towels leave a preceptible scratch when you look at it in the right light. Also, the Bosch SHE55M16UC has a “sanitized” light on it but this model does not have a sanitize option. The manual is very confusing on this issue, but there is no sanitize option button anywhere. Finally, the utensil basket is kind of stupid. It uses separators to try to keep the forks and spoons from resting on top of each other but many of my utensils have a fat bottom and are hard to insert into the basket. Very annoying. Bottom line: it washes well (as long as you don’t use re-formulated Cascade that no longer works because they took out the phosphates!), is quiet, but for the price I wish of few of the features were better. >>> Read more

We thorughly reaseached our next diswasher purchase after our GE Profile let us down. While the Bosch models have snob appeal – they were pretty filmsy when we looked at them and the lower rack hung up when we tried to slide it out in the showroom on multiple models. We loved the Whirlpool online video explaining the features and it sold us. We’ve had Whirlpool GU2475XTVY for two months and it has always done a great job. I installed Whirlpool GU2475XTVY myself and it is fairly easy – note the sound insulation is very thick and you’ll need to tape it down to install the unit. On sound, yes you can hear it running. I live in a small studio apartment and the Danby DDW497W Countertop Dishwasher is one of the best purchases I’ve made. I hate doing dishes and was thrilled the day my dishwasher arrived. So far, I’ve found much to like. First, setup was quick and within a few minutes I was ready to run my first batch of dishes. I use Finish Powerball tabs and I recommend this detergent. I also recommend rinsing the dishes before use and they will come out spotless, even on the P3 Rapid Wash, which takes about an hour. Despite its small size, the dishwasher holds quite a bit, provided you get creative with loading. Even though there is no heating element for drying, just open the door at the end of the cycle and plates and glasses will dry shortly. Plastic and silverware will take a hand drying. There are a couple of flaws: the cycles are long: over 2 hours for a couple of them. The silverware basket is small and flimsy. And there are long pauses during the cycle. A readout with time remaining would be nice. But overall I am pleased with Danby DDW497W appliance. >>> Read more
